Vasanta Wettasinha, from Sri Lanka, who was a welcome addition to the local chess scene during the 2006/07 season, has played in several events during a visit to the UK. The strong London Chess Challenge FIDE Open proved to be a successful tournament for him. He scored 5/9, 3½ points higher than his expected score under the ELO rating system and carrying off a grading prize. Here he scores an efficient win in a long rook ending against a much higher-rated opponent.
