League
It was decided that the County Shield should be contested as three-round all-play-all and the Roberts Cup as a double-round all-play-all.
It was agreed that the total grading per team for the "550 League" should be reduced to 500 points. The grade to be used shall be the quickplay grade, where the player has one, and longplay grades if he or she does not.
It was also decided that the trophy awarded to the winning team of this competition should be named the Betty Roberts Cup.
Knock-Out Cups
The draws were made for the A. W. Busby and Roger Grime Cups and pairings are as follows (home team first):
A. W. Busby Cup:
Preliminary round Truro v Liskeard
Semi-final SF1: Truro or Liskeard v Camborne. SF2: Newquay v Falmouth
Final Winner SF1 v Winner SF2
Roger Grime Cup:
Preliminary round Falmouth v Camborne
Semi-final SF1: Falmouth or Camborne v Truro. SF2: Newquay v Liskeard
Final Winner SF1 v Winner SF2
The dates for these matches to be arranged.
Communication and publicity
The chairman outlined in detail his ideas for attracting new players to club chess. These were enthusiastically received and discussed. A motion proposed by I. G. (seconded G. T.) "to create a new role in the Executive, reappointable at AGMs, of Publicity Officer, and that he or she be responsible for all publicity, including the website," was carried.
Robin Kneebone (proposed R. S., seconded I.G.) was unanimously elected to the post. R. K. agreed to lead the initiative during the period of intended change and development in the expectation that, once new systems were in place, then some roles can be filled by others.
Calendar and programme
It was agreed that a co-ordinated programme of events, broadly reproducible programme anually, was desirable to take into account regional and national competitions for juniors, the league and county congress, county matches and popular congresses held in Devon and Somerset. R. K. and J. M. to work with I. G. on the details.
ECF Membership Scheme
I. G. thanked all clubs for their co-operation in the introduction of the scheme, which proceeded smoothly. The arrangements for the coming season will be identical to last year
Fees
It was agreed that the membership fees payable by the clubs for team competitions should be at the following rates: County Shield and Roberts Cup: £15 per team, all other competitions £10 per team. A motion proposed by I. G. that the 10% discount for early payment be abandoned was carried.
It was agreed that the fees should be reconsidered during this season and that possibly they be should adjusted for next season to reflect more fairly the cost per match of each competition, while retaining overall income.
Any Other Business
Clocks which were initially allocated for junior chess to be returned to R. K. or J. M.
