POST-WAR COUNTY CHAMPIONS

No.8: Arthur Busby (1955, 1958, 1961, 1963, 1964, 1972)

B Forsling 0 -1 Arthur Busby (Correspondence: BCCA Premier "A", 1948)

Arthur Busby moved to Cornwall from the Midlands a few years after World War II. A Chartered Accountant, he joined the Camborne office of Peat Marwick Mitchell (now part of KPMG) and eventually became senior partner there. Over a period of 30 years he was one of the leading players in the county, winning the Emigrant Cup 6 times and played on top board for Camborne / Redruth for much of that period. He donated the trophy for our main (then the only) knock-out competition and it was named after him in recognition of his great contribution to chess in the county.
