Colin Sellwood v Robin Kneebone

Camborne Club Championship 2013/14, Rd.2

Bishops of opposite colour don't always guarantee a draw....

The losing move. Correct is 48...Kd5 , denying c5 to the bishop and, most importantly, e5 to the king, attacking the e-pawn so that the white king can't take the g-pawn immediately and clearing the a4-e8 diagonal for the bishop. 49.Kf6 (A 49.Kxg4 Kxe6; B 49.Ba3 Bd3+ 50.Kf6 h5 transposes to the main variation) 49...h5 threatens 50...h4 50.Kf7 (50.Kg5 Kxe6 51.Kxh5) Kf5 50...a3 51.Bxa3 h4 52.gxh4 (52.e7 Bb5 53.gxh4 (53.f5 hxg3 54.f6 g2 55.Kg8 g1Q 56.f7 Qe3 57.f8Q Qg5+=) 53...g3 54.Bc1 Ke4 55.Ba3 Kd5 repeats moves) 52...g3 53.Bc1 Ke4 54.Ba3 54...Kd5 repeats moves
